Ima be real wit you. I’ve seen multiple recipes bout oyster mushrooms this, oyster mushrooms that. How they have a chicken texture, etc.

I was skeptic. And I watched plenty youtube videos and seen some recipes but never tried it. Also, it took me a minute to even be able to find them in a store. But once I did…you already know I had to go see what’s up.

A big note, you might wanna cop you a air fryer because that’s finna make this a lot easier and use way less oil than traditional frying. But that’s personal choice, live yo life.

Recipe

Ingredients

Wet Batter

  • Complete/All Purpose seasoning
  • Onion powder
  • Seasoning salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Liquid smoke
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 cup spelt flour

Dry Batter

  • Onion powder
  • Seasoning salt
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup spelt flour

Rest of ingredients

  • 1 pack oyster mushrooms
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1 head of lettuce or kale
  • 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce
  • Veganaise
  • Burger Buns

Instructions

  1. Combine the wet batter ingredients into a bowl. Combine the dry batter ingredients into a separate bowl. An alternative method is just throw the dry batter ingredients in a bag.
  2. Wash and dry the oyster mushrooms. Pull them apart into medium-sized pieces. Dip into the wet batter and then add to the dry batter bag. You can double batter if you tryna get it crispier.
  3. AIR FRYING: Set air fryer to 350 F and cook for 15 minutes flipping them half way through. Make sure to spray oil on them before frying.
  4. DEEP FRYING: Add about 2-3 inches of oil in a pot and turn on high then lower to about medium heat. Sprinkle water in the oil and if it sizzles it’s hot enough. Then fry the oyster mushrooms making sure to turn so they brown evenly.
  5. Personally deep frying has a better texture than air frying especially if you double batter. But air frying is more convenient and faster.
  6. When they’re done let em drain on a paper towel. You can either serve as-is like some chicken tenders or you can make a sandwich out of it like the picture.
  7. Eat that shxt!
