Everything we do in life is made up of choices. What clothes we buy, what shows we watch, who’s catching these hands today, etc. But one of the most important choices we make daily is what we eat.

Important? Yeah. It’s important. Listen, compare your body to a car. You want your car to last as long as possible. You only want to take your car into the shop for a checkup and an oil change, but not a repair. So in order to make sure your car lasts as long as possible…what do you do?

You take care of it. This is the exact same for our bodies. You don’t want to put low quality fuel into a car because it’s an investment. The same goes for your health. Let’s be honest here, convenience when it comes to food RARELY equates to health.

I hear you. That fo-fo-fo sounds good til you paying forty-fo thousand in hospital bills because your arteries started to build up plaque from all the cheap food you been eating over the years.

I’m not gonna lie to you and say it’s easy and won’t take work. But since when does any investment not take work?

Okay den. You get me. It’s going to take some real effort. But you can do it. I’m here for you. We can do this together. See one of the things that bothers me the most is that the leading cause of death among black people is heart disease (stat found here, table found here).

We’ve been taught that we’re “predisposed” to these diseases, and it’s “genetic” or “runs in the family.” You know what else runs in the family…bad habits. Specifically, eating habits. I’m lookin at you chitlins.

This ain’t to say fxck yo lifestyle. But we need to be more conscientious of what we’re putting inside of ourselves and better understand the root causes of diseases.

Being sick ain’t something that you just have to “accept” or “deal with.” I haven’t been sick in 10 years and 50% of that is my attitude (that’s another topic). But the point is, you can better control your health by starting with the basics. Which is what you eat.

Start reading labels, paying attention to ingredients, looking into some of those chemicals that you can’t pronounce and figure out what they actually do to you. You’d be surprised the effects some of these shxts can have on you. So take back your health and don’t be a victim of bad eating habits.
